Flu AND COVID vaccinations for eligible patients in a range of clinics.

Flu Vaccination
- Available to patients over 65 years
- Available to patients who are “clinically at risk” as defined in the Green Book

COVID Vaccination
- Available to patients over 75 years
- Available to patients who are “immunosuppressed” as defined in Chapter 14a
of the Green book
- Patients under 75 years are only eligible if they meet the specific criteria in the Green Book
If you have not received an invitation for both vaccines and feel you may be
eligible, please complete a Information form
Immunosuppression | Immunosuppression due to disease or treatment, including patients undergoing chemotherapy leading to immunosuppression, patients undergoing radical radiotherapy, solid organ transplant recipients, bone marrow or stem cell transplant recipients, HIV infection at all stages, multiple myeloma or genetic disorders affecting the immune system (e.g. IRAK-4, NEMO, complement disorder, SCID). Individuals who are receiving immunosuppressive or immunomodulating biological therapy including, but not limited to, anti-TNF, alemtuzumab, ofatumumab, rituximab, patients receiving protein kinase inhibitors or PARP inhibitors, and individuals treated with steroid sparing agents such as cyclophosphamide and mycophenolate mofetil. Individuals treated with or likely to be treated with systemic steroids for more than a month at a dose equivalent to prednisolone at 20mg or more per day for adults. Anyone with a history of haematological malignancy, including leukaemia, lymphoma, and myeloma. Those who require long term immunosuppressive treatment for conditions including, but not limited to, systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, scleroderma and psoriasis. |
Green book guidance for immunosuppressed patients eligible for the COVID vaccination.
This change affects patients who have previously been eligible for COVID vaccinations due to conditions such as asthma or COPD, diabetes, heart disease, liver disease, neurological disease or chronic kidney disease who are now eligible for the FLU vaccination ONLY as a “clinically at risk” patient.
(We will NOT be able to offer Covid vaccines to any eligible under 18yr olds. These patients will need to book to have their Covid vaccine via the National Booking System.
BOOKING AND CLINICS AT SHERINGHAM MEDICAL PRACTICE
- a text message (from the Practice) – eligible patients who have registered their mobile number with us will receive a text message informing you when you can attend for your vaccine.
- Via letter (from the Practice) – eligible patients without a registered mobile number or email will receive a letter.
- What do I need to do – No appointment is necessary, but it is important that you try to attend according to the timetable below. This helps to avoid problems with queuing. If you cannot attend your clinic, it is ‘VERY IMPORTANT’ that you contact the practice to arrange an alternative. If you are unable to attend you allotted time or clinic, contact the practice via online Start Online Consultation by completing an online form or on 01263 820738 and we will advise you of your options.
- Parking – there will be marshals outside the Practice to show you where to park and there will be reserved disabled parking close to the entrance.
- Dress – patients need to make sure they wear appropriate clothing to allow both upper arms to be easily accessed.
JOINT COVID & FLU CLINICS
Patients 75yrs and over AND 18 – 74yr olds who are immunosuppressed – In line with this year’s Government and JVCI guidance, patients in these cohorts will be invited to Sheringham Medical Practice to attend joint Covid and Flu vaccination clinics, where we will give one vaccine in each arm. These clinics will be held on:

Co-administration of both vaccines is a safe and efficient method of vaccination. Patients can attend these clinics and decline to have one or the other of the vaccines, however, we would encourage patients to have both vaccines as we may not be able to hold catch up clinics at a later date.

Care Home and Housebound Patients
The Practice will ensure that all care homes and eligible housebound patients are offered both flu and covid vaccinations from 1st of October to late November.
The NHS defines a housebound person as someone unable to leave their home or surrounding area due to physical or mental health issues. Lack of transport does not automatically qualify someone as housebound however we will always consider your request.

FLU ONLY CHILDRENS CLINICS
ALL 2 – 3yr olds AND 4 – 17yr old at-risk children will be invited to have their Flu vaccine in children’s clinics at the Practice. We will contact you about these flu clinics shortly. The Surgery will NOT be offering Covid boosters to under 18’s. Eligible children will need to book to have their Covid booster via the National Booking System.
